Have you ever owned a pair of socks that you just couldn’t wait to slip on your feet? It’s not often I get excited about socks, but I just got a couple pairs of the Keen Utility Dura – Zone Crew Sock at the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City and they make me giddy like a 6-month-old golden retriever. When I do laundry I can’t wait to retrieve these socks from the dryer, so I can roll them into a ball and put them in my sock drawer, ready to keep my little piglets comfortable and warm on their next adventure.
When it comes to comfort Keen thought of everything. Have sweaty feet? No worries. The breathable panels will help keep your feet dry. Worried about high impact spots? Forget it. The extra cushioning will ease your pain. Do your socks bunch up all the time? These socks aren’t going anywhere with their right angle heel cup and seamless toe construction. Plus, Keen has developed a blend of merino wool, nylon, polyester, Dyneema (yeah, the same material they use to make climbing slings), and lycra spandex that is not only soft to the touch, but extremely durable.
Keen claims their high-tenacity fibers used in the heel and toe are, weight for weight, 15x stronger than steel. And get this. If you do wear through a pair they’re guaranteed for life. You can’t beat that.
I’ve never been one to spend a lot of money on socks. Typically, I buy a cheap 6-pack of cotton socks at the closest discount clothing store and call it a day. In the past I would never had spent $24 on a single pair of socks. Frankly, I would have been offended by the thought. But now after wearing Keen’s Dura – Zone socks for a few weeks I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
